ato question

Ok this is probally a stupid question that i should know but, I have been thinking about getting an ato soon for my tank since im tired of constantly topping off my tank , but i am completely lost as to how it actually works. I have tried to search threads about it but still not clear on really how to do it. Do you buy a kit and just install it? i know a float switch is involved in the sump when it gets to a certain point it fills it back up to the desired water level but that is really about it. Thank you

Yes just get it and install it. All you'll need is a reservoir. A 5 gallon bucket works for smaller tanks for larger tanks you may need something bigger. Based on your question I would look into the Tunze. Just set it and forget it, best piece of equipment don't ever buy for your tank!

^ I agree. I had a cheap ATO that worked ok but didn't like the fluctuation of the water level (sometimes it would pump a little bit more water than I would like). Switched to Tunze and now no worries, keeps a constant level. Set it and forget it. Pricey but worth it.

Do you have an apex? If not, autotopoff.com is great for the money.

I do not have an apex, and thank you ill check it out. How have you been? I dont know if you remember me i met you with bernie.Getting myself back into the hobby more now kinda took a break for awile.

I have a stand-alone Avast ATO on my frag tank and it works well. It's a smaller tank so I use a 2.5 gallon jug that fits under the cabinet as me reservoir, it lasts about a week. Works well and their support is excellent. It uses a pressure switch so there's no moving parts to it. Not too pricey either.

I'm good. I remember you. I think I saw Bernie posting again not too long ago as well.

Getting an Apex is like crack, once you try it; you never want to do without it. There's a crazy amount of stuff you can do with it to make your life easier. Once it's setup, adjustments are easy.
