Ato

Do you mean topping off RODI water with increasing salinity? I don't think that's the best way to do top off since the probe can be very erroneous if left uncalibrated for just a short period of time. And also, depending on how big your tank is, the salinity might not start to increase til a very large amount of water has evaporated. But you can still do this using the programmable logic with conductiviity increasing, turn RODI pump on.
Sensors are still the best bet. If you want to incorporate the salinity probe as a fail safe then it can be done using the programmable logic conductivity alarm.

Also if you dose two parts, you're basically adding salt into the tank. This will make your probe to tell the RODI pump to pump water into the tank to make up for the extra salt added. The level will rise and eventually overflow out of the tank just to keep the salinity in check. Even with the salinity in check, the additives you just added has been diluted, and therefore more additives will be needed and the endless cycle continues.
I suggest you look at other ways of topping off if you don't want to go with any sensors.

Nick, I completely agree with that explanation. I am using the optical sensor for ATO and it is working incredibly well.

Thanks Nick, i didnt look at it that way, good call mate.

Whats the best chamber to put my sensor in then, i have /supply/skimmer/reactor/return.

I Can totally see where using conductivity to "meter" the ATO sounds like a good idea but as already posted it's a heavily flawed concept. It "Can" be done yes but in all reality it's not the best way and it has a high level of "Flood Probability".

Using level sensors to trigger AND to work as backup (overflow protection) in addition to using a timer just in case to shut the pump off if both sensors fail is the tried and true way to handle ATO.

Best would be one with the least disturbance.
But even with disturbance in the level, you can set the reaction time of the sensor to something longer.
