Attaching a frag to the reef ready column.

I want to attach a frag to the reef ready column in my tank. I am thinking of scarring the surface of the plastic column in the area I want to attach the frag and put a small amount of epoxy on the area. Then make a hole in the epoxy the size of the frag base. Let it harden and then super glue the frag in the hole.

Has anyone tried this or maybe has a better idea?

I did something similar with a cap frag. I mounted it to my overflow.
I cleaned off the spot on the overflow, placed the epoxy on it, shoved the frag into the epoxy. Held it for a minute, and it was good to go.
The frag eventually encrusted over the epoxy. Held for over a year until
I moved the tank.

Why not just superglue the frag right to the overflow?

It can be tricky to get the glue to stick once you get it wet, but I've found that dispensing a big glob of the gel stuff, dipping it in the tank, then takinf it out and breaking up the skin on the glue surface will generally get you stuck to your next hard target under water.

The only reason I've used epoxy on mine like that was when what you're wanting to glue is very irregular. Epoxy can make a nice flat surface to superglue to the overflow.

I didn't score/etc the overflow at all ... superglue alone has held for 2 years + going :)

Here is what working for me.

I am making a dime size epoxy stand. Flat on one side and domed on the other side. On the domed side I am making a appropriate hole for the coral. This I am letting set for a few hours. Then I rough up the reef ready column with a razor blade and super gluing the expoy to the reef ready column. Again wait a few hours. Finally super glue the frag in the epoxy hole.

Super glue by itself does not work unless the the frag is tiny.

I'm assuming you are talking about an overflow. I've never heard of a "reef ready column."

does it matter what he calls it? everyone participateing in this thread knew what he was talking about. your first post on this thread and you offered no advice and in no way contributed to the OP's question. thanks.

Dang so critical. I was just making sure because he called it that after others called it an overflow. You never now. Maybe he was wanting to glue it to something that would not be a good idea. Maybe a pump or something.
