attaching zoa frags?

recently brought home the first zoa for my biocube14, which has stock lighting. wasnt sure where it would be happiest, so i set the frag on one of the live rocks, where it would get decent light and not too much flow.

this morning the poor thing was upside down on the sand - damn hermits! it has opened and looks fine, but i need to attach it to the rock. have heard about glue, but i dont know if i've picked the right place for it.

here's the question: can i tie the frag on with thread? will it hurt the colony if the thread goes carefully thru it? want to make sure the crab cant knock it off again.

it's already on a frag, one that looks like a white concrete disk. i want to attach the zoa-bearing disk to the rock, but not with glue if that can be avoided

Hi and congrats on your first zoa !! You can attach the plug to the rock with rubber bands and it won't hurt anything. But..... the bands don't look good IMO. I always use SUPER GLUE "GEL". Apply some to the bottom of the plug and then place the plug where I want it on the rock and apply pressure for a couple of minutes to be certain that it has set. From my experience it has been no big deal to remove the plug later if desired once the zoas have spread to the rocks.
This looks much nicer in your tank and doesn't hurt anything. I had some that instead of gluing I simply placed the stand or stalk part of the plug into some holes in my rock, no glue necessary. You can drill some holes if need be to sit the plug in. I hope this helps and good luck with your coral. Rick
I am new to this site but have been doing corals for about 4 years and I have been a member on some of the other forums for that long as well.

I wouldn't hesitate at all to glue it. Go to any store that has an office or home improvement section and buy any superglue that has "gel" in the title. Squirt a bit on the bottom of the disk and then place it where you want it...super easy. It'll cure and stick under water. I've glued many, many frag plugs in my display tank. It's not nearly as permanent as you might think. If you decide to move the frag, give it a decent little tug and it'll pop off. One of my wrasses is infinitely curious about anything new in the tank and will usually poke at the superglue, but he's never ended up with a glue-covered mouth and no ill effects.

I use CorAffix Gel made by Two Little Fishies and it works great. I have been using it for a while to glue all kinds of frags in my tank with no issues...

If you want it permanent stick to your rock then you have to use the combination of superglue gel and epoxy. You can google for the instruction of how to do it.
