baby cardinal

I have a baby cardinal that a friend and I discoverd while moving his stuff from one house to his new house. He had about 15 at least and I have one. So far I have him in my QT which is a 29 with a little rock, sand, and a sponge filter. I don't have the slightest idea what to do to keep this little guy alive. I'm afraid to put him into my display, but I will have to do something with him...I'll need my QT for when I buy new fish.

Any help would be awesome, thanx

I'm a little lost, I don't understand- slightest idea what to do to keep this guy.
You have your tank w/ sponge filter, and the fish appears fine -right? Why not keep him in there until hes big enough to compete for food in your main tank.

I assume this is a banggai cardinalfish
I'm not sure at what size this fish is 1/4", 1/2", 1"
if its under 1/2" you may have to feed it live food, since its prolly been eating copepods, and zooplankton from the rockwork. If its approx 1" then it will prolyl eat prepared foods.
AS for keeping it in your display tank, it all depends what the cardinal is eating, and whats its tank mates will be.
here are some articles to start

thanx...it was prolly 3/16", but I can't find it today, so I'm bummed out.

It's a bongai. The reason I didn't want to keep him in there was because thats the tank I put new fish in, which means I couldn't get any fish till this guy was bigger

thanx again

I've raised a few batches of Bangaii fry. I have only been able to feed them freshly hatched baby brine shrimp. a lfs should have a brine hatching setup for < $20. I keep them in a divided 10G tank with a sponge filter on the side with the really young ones and a hang on filter on the other side.

I have had success feeding cyclop-eeze and frozen baby brine to bangaii fry. You need to visualize the fry capturing this food though as some fry will not take to frozen without a training period utilizing live foods also. Baby brine are extremely easy to hatch and should be your first choice.
