Baby clown trigger question

I have an empty 28 gallon that I've decided I want to raise a baby trigger in. I recently lost my Niger that I raised from the size of a quarter to a softball, very sad :-( but my lfs regularly gets in tiny triggers and I'm wondering how long I could house a 1-2" clown trigger in it until I needed to move it to my 220? I'm also considering a undulated because I know if I got one small enough it could stay in there longer because I've read they are slow growers. Either one would be the only fish in the tank. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thank you

Clowns do tend to grow fast as babies and then slow down- when they big, he will kill everything in your tank- not when, or maybe- one day you will only have a Clown Trigger- that may take years to occur but it will...the Clown would likely outgrow a 28 gallon in a couple months...I added a 1 incher to my 250 about 1 month ago- he has just about doubled in size...
Undulates grow slower and are beyond nasty and kill and torment for the sheer pleasure it brings...they are brutal fish at any size-
So...both fish are insane and will kill...but, I love them both!
Your 220 would be a great tank for either one...solo...
The Clown would be seen more-- Undy's tend to be shy and hide...

The undulated would NOT go in the 220... I'm not that crazy ;-)

I also forgot to ask about a huma, I always see tiny ones as well. Aren't they slow growers too?

I disagree about Clown Triggers killing everything. Yes, ok my Clown trigger killed my Blueface Angel two years ago but that is it. He still runs from my hand/fish guy hand in the tank, but maybe I'm lucky. I wouldn't raise a baby clown in such a small tank, they need to be able to swim. My clown has also lived with other triggers (4 at once) and was/is fine.

Undulated? Hell no.

I disagree about Clown Triggers killing everything.

They don't all do it, but it happens often enough that it's important to warn anyone about the possibility.

I agree with humaguy. The small CT tend to grow pretty quickly, and it won't be long before it has to be moved. As for an undulated, it could be kept in there a little longer, but you'd still have to move it somewhere, so it would be basically a temporary resident in your house, so I'd pass on that, if it were me.

Agree with above. I bought a CT about 1.5" and it doubled in 5 months in my 125.

a 220 with a full grown Undy would be awesome...love the thread with "Nacho" (Titan Trigger) and his solo (also a Jewel Damsel) tank!

No the 220 already has some inhabitants, no undy is going in there, I would have to set up a different tank for him if I got one.

Well I guess it's a no on a baby trig, oh well, would have been cool :-(
It's hard not having a intermediate sized tank, I have a 28, 37, and the 220.

Anybody else have any ideas for this tank? I think I've considered everything, angler, seahorses, pair of clowns, I've been keeping scorps for a few years and wanted to do something different. I just don't know :headwally:

Petco has great deals on 125s and stands- though the tanks are not pre-drilled...they will, but price goes up...
How about mandarins in the small tank???
They are so cool and beautiful... need a healthy copepod population to sustain, unless you can find captive bred that will accept any foods...I have had them accept mysis and brine after a while but not always guaranteed...

Go with an angler, I have a black angler is my 30 bow front tank and he is by far my favorite fish i own, once he gets a little bit bigger hes going in the 150 he is about 4 inches right now and growing fast (hes spoiled)

Ya I thought about that too because the tank is COVERED in pods but I think it would still need to be spot fed daily which I'm not really in to, which is why I passed on the seahorse idea. They are probably one of the most striking fish though.

Not trying to beat the dead horse but I don't think I got an answer on a tiny huma trig, aren't they slow growers?

baby Humas can be slow growers...esp, once they get around 4-5 inches they really slow down...they do not grow as quickly as a Queen, Golden Heart, or Clown...in a 29 I would say...you could get away with it, though not for long, and providing the specimin is tiny, like 1 inch...they are swimmers and before you know it, your Huma will be swimming laps in front of the tank (if she was a person she would be pacing) because she is going stir crazy in such a small tank...

Ya I won't do it then, that's why I asked first. Now I just have to figure out which big trigger I want in the 220 is that a golden heart in your avatar? Have you ever kept one?

Yeah, that is a Golden Heart Trigger...got it around 3 years ago and she was 3.5 inches now close to 12 inches with streamers...also got a 2.25 incher last week from DD...she is in the 125...the big one is in the 250...will move the big one into the 700 gallon this summer...

I love Triggers and Angels...they are fairly peaceful, similiar to a Pinktail, but don't **** them off!! I do currently have a smaller Pinktail (Hawaii), around 3.5 inches who is the boldest Pinktail I have ever owned...

I might get another Niger, I love their finnage. My lfs has a 6" one that is beautiful!! Big red teeth! He bites though lol. But on the other hand I want something I haven't had yet. Decisions... Decisions...
