Baby Squamosa Clams?

My LFS has got 1-1.5" baby squamosa clams for sale for $19 that I'm really tempted to buy, but I'm nervous about it because I know how hard baby clams are compared to adults because of all the feeding they require and such. I have a 4-5" crocea clam now that has been doing well since I got him a month ago, so I know my lighting and water conditions are good enough for a squamosa, but I've never had to feed clams before. Should I give it a try? If so, what should I use to feed? The guy at the fish store said I could keep it in a small tupperware container 1/2 full of sand and that way I could lift it out of the tank and add phyto to the container to feed it and then put it back in when its done eating. Does this sound like a plausible idea? Any input/opinions are welcome.

clams at that size have a higher mortality rate. so if you got it and did "everything right" it still may die for no apparent reason.

i also suspect that the clams are Maxima's and not Squamosa'. ive never seen or heard of Squamosa' comming in at that size but Maximas have been comming in that size for about the last year

It might be maxima's, I'm not 100% sure. I'm going up there today to check them out again, so I'll see if I was wrong.

I would stay away from the smaller ones! But if you are willing to feed it all the time and take care off it, go for it. But there is still a chance it will perish in the mean time. My Lfs get the babies in and they have it in a tupperware and feed them and I have seen none survive so far. I myself buy only 3 inch and up never lost one yet!

Yeah, try to avoid it if possible. I have a 4" crocea in my tank for 5 months and I can say the water is good. Then I got a 1.5" max two weeks ago and feed it almost daily. So far, it doesn't look so good and I don't know if it can make it eventually...

you dont need top feed it, thats a misconception, though they do tend to have higher mortality rates anyway, and maximas tend to be the most fragile of all

Yeah, I think I've changed my mind. Why risk $20 on something that has a large chance of just dying off? I'll just wait and get a bigger one later on. Thanks for the input everyone
