Back from the dead zoas

a little background info first...

my tank started as a 5.5g with a par38 LED about this time last year. i acquired some nice PE zoas early on and they did very well. a few months ago work got real busy, i was traveling a lot and the tank got neglected. lost a few LPS, SPS and a few zoas closed up including my PPE, red halo PE, psychic PE and blue hornets. this was about 3-4months ago.

FFW to this august i set up my new tank, a 36g with AI Sol LEDs, a large skimmer and controlling everything with an Apex now. i moved over everything and slowly the closed zoas started perking up. my PPE were the first to come around, all three heads have opened up. next my hornet started coming around, now my psychic PE and the red halo PE are starting to look better.

i'm just going to update every so often with how they are recovering, mainly the Psychic PE since they're in a better spot to document this. pardon the poor pictures, LEDs+iPone 3 camera aren't the best. im going to get my DSLR in here one day

A good skimmer is one of the best things one can add to the system...
How did the Apex contributed to it?
Good to hear your story. Please tell us about other changes you've done to the system, if so.
I'm happy for you.

apex is keeping them temp 78-79 every day. my 5.5g was getting some fluctuations.

another reason for the upgrade was to start fresh with dead LR. i had a major flatworm issue in the previous tank. every thing went through dips and inspections to make sure nothing transferred over.

I was thinking to get a ReefKeeper for my new setup.
I'll take a look at the Apex. We'll see...
78-79°F is where I keep my temp. also. I just got a chiller. It makes so much easier!
Hopefully you won't have problems with those flatworms anymore. Good luck!

Look like all the polyps you've got could be from Hawaii.

i went with the apex for the instant internet control and AI control.

im hoping no more FW, im looking into getting some sort of wrasse for future control if needed.

i do like my PE zoas, i'd love to get some more Hawaiian ones. there was a guy on Nano-reef a while back selling them from hawaii at a good price.
