Back to hobby, much has changed in 9 years! Recommendation...

Been a RC member since 2007 or so. Back into reefing after an 8 year hiatus (moving, lightning and power outage ruining equipment and livestock on a 180 & 135). As well being totally burned by someone on this forum when selling it all and never getting paid for any of it.....

This is what I have left and using OLD equipment to setup a reef aquarium: 42 gallon hex with stand (used to be my "display refugium" for both tanks, aqua medic HQI 250W Metal Halide (14K bulb), AquaC Remora skimmer (used to be on my quarantine tank), API Fillstar XL canister filter with mechanical media, GFO, and carbon media.

Much has changed over the years!! I'm looking for the beafiest skimmer around for a 42 gal hex with 16x8x10 sump. I'm leaning towards getting another AquaC Remora and running dual Remoras hang on sump OR dual ASM Mini's. But I've never been impressed with the Remora's, even way back. Don't want a hang on the display tank.

Familiar with royal exclusive, euro-reef/reef dynamics, ASM, MRC, AquaC, MTC, Geo, Deltec, DAS. So many nowadays out of business and so many I've never heard of!

I like to skim heavy!

My personal preference would be a DC skimmer, though they tend to me much more expensive and usually difficult to find for small systems. Look at the Reef Octopus Classic 110-INT or the Bubble Magus Curve 5. Though b=neither uses a DC pump, both are less than $200 and have a proven track record as quality skimmers. I plan on using the Bubble Magus Curve 5 on my next 40g build in a few months.
