bacterial infection

My once healthy CBB has red marks on his side.. similar to the picture at chucksaddiction.com.

I miraculously was able to catch him and put him in QT. I am treating him with maracyn 2 now. my question is though: is the bacteria in the tank going to affect my other fish now?

They are not showing signs of it, but I am really worried.

What do you suggest?

Bacterial infections usually don't spread to other fish. You should be fine....Keep a good eye on ammonia in that treatment tank. Antibiotics can destroy biological filtration. Have some seachem prime on hand just incase you get an ammonia spike.

Thanks. will the 5 day maracyn 2 treatment be enough do you think? in your eperience has it usually cleared itself up in that time frame?

is it bad to continue treatment over the 5 day period if the marks do not dissipate?

is it safe to eat the fish if he does die?

Well I don't like seafood. So I am the wrong person to ask about the eating part..

Not sure about the time frame but I would call the manufacturer and ask them.

I would keep the treatment as short as possible for fear of destroing the biological filtration.
