Bad Couple days....

I have a 210 gallon tank with large sump and the tank is an old Oceanic so it has a middle section of glass as the main support. It is about 1 foot or more wide. Anyway, been up and running 1.5 years now (this was my upgrade). Yesterday I found my lawnmower blenny laying on the top of the glass (needless to say dead).:( Now I come home and find my C. pylei male wrasse up there too. I tried to revive him for ten minutes, no go.:sad1:

Question, will the female pylei's be okay without a mate? They have only been together for a couple months. I also have a C. solarensis, H. crysus, and C. cyanopleura.

The others seem fine and no aggression between them.

Thanks.

They will be fine alone. You should really have a 1/4" screen lid on your tank, no matter what's inside of it. It's a MUST if your going to keep wrasses. Most likely one of your fish has started to chase the others. You might not notice it right away, but if you sit in front of the tank long enough I'd bet you'll find the culprit.

Best of luck with the remaining fish. There are many DIY threads here on RC for making screen tops. I think BRS might even have a video on it. Egg crate is too large for stopping most fish.

I've had a female pyleis for about 2 years. It does ok. Its a shy fish and I'd consider adding a male if I found one, but they don't need to be in pairs.

I do have the entire outside frame covered. I have a DIY screen material and screen frame that has worked great. I just did not have the middle support blocked because I had not found a way to do it yet without blocking light. I guess I will get that done this week-end. Thanks for the info about the wrasse. She is not that shy, so that is good. I did notice the yellow coris chasing the male pylei a bit. Maybe that was what did it.

Thanks.
