ok So I got my new seahorse tank setup, and finally cycled after getting back into this stuff.

I have cultures of zoo, phyto, and tiger pods going.

I got a 90 gallon tank, nice sump etc.., UV, protien skimmer, DSB,alge with tiger pods, antho pods, copepods..

so yesterday I got 4 new seahorses, 2 of them were eating before I went to sleep. all 4 were eating when I fed them this morning.

Later in the afternoon after doing some errands when I get home I go take a peek at them. I look and look and look, I can only find 3.. after about an hour im like..is he in the sump?

sure enough, hes down there, took one heck of a ride to get there im sure.. It had to of stressed him out. The sump has some major flow since thats where I have my UV going, my skimmer etc.. and who knows how long he was down there.

I turned off my equipment, put my hand in there, and he came straight to me. and latched on to my finger. I take him out, put him in the main tank, and he turned this super bright yellow ive never seen before :)

So I watch them for a bit etc, go upstairs eat dinner etc.

go back down, I can only find 3... check the sump.... its empty
go back a little later, I can only find 3...

I hope hes ok :/, any suggestions before I stress the rest of them out and start moving rocks etc???

(im gonna do a water change tommorow, while the water is low, im going to drill holes in the over flow to prevent any mroe horses from taking a ride down the slip n slide to the sump :|

I'd just wait it out, there is a good chance homie is in the rock or just hiding somewhere. I have a 20g QT tank running right now and sometimes it takes me a minute to find one seahorse, even though there is minimal rock, just a good amount of macro.

If you do start moving rocks, be very careful and remove from the top up. You move the wrong rock, cause a little slide, you can easily injure a seahorse that way, JME.

Raising the grating on the overflow with eggcrate or something similiar will keep the seahorses out. IME seahorses do O.K. with flow in the water but those drains, CL intakes, and powerheads just seem to suck them right in. The only way to limit the amount of flow being drawn into the overflow is by limiting your flow which may or may not be desirable IME.

before I went to sleep last night I checked one more time, and i found him. The funny part is this morning I can only find 2 of them.

Wonder how I train them to use a feeding station if i never find em.

I have a 120 gallon seahorse tank with 7 H. Reidi and I have to look real hard to find all of them at one given time. they blend in so well you can't see them unless they move. I am sure they are fine.

oh yeah, WHERE ARE THE PICS! :)

Ahhhhhhhhh someone with H Reidi`s .. ? for u.. Have you had fry from them yet? If so can you shed some light on the fry set up tank.. I know these are one of the most difficult fry to rear.. and does anyone know what species of SH that have the larger size fry and smaller in numbers ? any info would be appreciated..
