Bad Rock

Ok maybe jumping the gun but my tank has been up and running now for 3 week.....Few new cured piece of LR but all the other rock is from my old tank...Lighting has changed from MH to T5.....
There are a few piece that are getting very short red hair on the top side (lightside).....I took out a piece and the hair dont come off easy...so its just now ontop of the rock......Its very dark red hair.........My old tank didnt have much purple on the rocks.....alway a red to dark red.....here is a picture let me know what you think.......

Eww, I had an Urchin that cleaned it spot free. Maybe a turbo will eat that right up. Another thing I noticed when I had it was that in that one area where it was like that I had a lot of flow blowing on the rock. It could be part of the "cycle"... wait it out I guess.

I feel for you bro ....that junk is bad and spreads all over if it's the same thing i think it is. If it's slimy red hair then you're ok... it should start clearing up after the cycle. Turbos should eat it... if it's the red hair that is tough and not slimy then your in for some headaches.

for the tough non slimy one...
Emerald crabs should eat it.....
Turbos won't touch it ...
Tangs should eat it..
Urchins will eat is...then again, what won't they eat...lol ..

No its short and feels slimy...I have the rock out of the tank now but its like it came up overnight.....it sort of blends in because my rock are very deep red with "NO HAIR"

I'd say part of the cycle, i just moved and my rock had a lot of brown cyano form on it for a few weeks, then died on its own over 24 hours and a light outbreak of hair algea which also passed with 2 weeks. You'll have cycles for about 6 months IMO and then things will stabilize and start looking really good. My tank is only 2 months old and its still having little cycles of algea and film on the sand and such.

Well I still have the rock out of the tank. Put above 20 blue/red/ leg hermits......so what they can do....This red slime came up overnihght....I will leave the hremits in these fer a couple of days
and see if they will nibble at it.....I can tfind a picture of it on the internet anywhere......Khowm knows maybe it great for the tank just dont look that good

Check your alkalinity and ph mine were out of balance the rocks stated getting some slime naturally first thing I thought were the lights but three or four weeks after fixing the problem without changing the lights the rocks are back to normal.

scubasteve Im thinking your right....Ive seen another picture and looks pretty much as what I have red turf algea....where it came from I will never know......Iv said in the past I have a hard time growing things.....well kick my *** Im a growin fool.......
