Hi all.
This is on Friday at 6:30 pm a lightning strike very but very close to my house and suddenly power goes out but then return in matter of seconds, but for my surprise, let see were do I start
My computer is dead, my phone dead (not the phone line) the phone itself dead, the TV from the garage not dead but only black & white (like in the old times) 2 DVD units and the list goes on and but my trauma really start with the Tank lights were off it blows both ARO transformers and all 4 bulbs why not sure considering that the white ones were off at the moment the lightning strikes. So now the tank is in the dark.
What are my options buy 2 ARO transformers and 4 new bulbs or my neighbor is selling a orbit or coralife not sure is a 2-150 w MH and 2- PC 6 moonlights with built in fans for a $100.00 not bad that will be a good upgrade but I will need a chiller.

Now my question will be what chiller? new or use how much they go for what size and it will worth the upgrade of the lights just keep in mine that is a 55 gal tank

If some one have a chiller or 2 aro ballast they are willing to sale in a good price please let me know ASAP I need to figure out what to do with this issue.

Getting back to the other stuff someone told my to call FPL that they should be responsible I search on the website and there’s is no information at all I guess I have to call tomorrow and find out and is some have any information on that matter let me know

I also need a tech for my TV and my computer.
:mad2:

Tanks in advance for any input

The light your neighbor has might be a very good deal. Depends on condition, etc.

What's in your tank. That would be a lot of light for a 55 gal. If it's a softie tank, forget it.

IF you decide to go that route, I have a Current Prime 1/10 HP chiller used less than one year that I can part with. They are about $350 new. I'd sell for $225.

Sorry about your ordeal dude, I know what you mean though. At 03:45 on Saturday we were hit with the worst hail storm I've ever seen. I'm talking about golf ball sized hail!!! There goes my truck!!!

Good luck with your equipment though. If you need someone to look at your PC let me know, it's what I do.

sorry to hear that.

the unit your neighbor is selling seems like a steal however. id have to disagree with coralfragger, it would do great for your size tank for everything youd like to keep, jusr sps would need to be placed up pretty high as well as if you are keeping any clams.

I figured that you have 300 watts for the 2 MH's and I am assuming that the PC's are probably 96w PC's giving you a total of 492 watts about 9 watts per gallon on a 55.

There are other factors but the average is what? 4-5 watts per gal?

This would be almost double and is why I said that if the tank is a softie tank that I wouldn't do it.

Simply my .02

OK - maybe I take it back (just a little). Found a chart that does say this would work. I'd still find it a bit on the high side though.

Thank you guys for the input and sorry for the delay I just have to snick in my sons bedroom to use the pc

coralfragger101 - I know lights are a good deal and you’re offer for the chiller to and you have a point that would be a lot of light specially that wasn’t plan for it

compulou - tanks and sorry about your truck too

bawla47 â€"œ it could be but remember that right now I have 440 w with the VHO and that’s pretty good for clams specially on a 55

coralfragger101 - imo when you talk about light’s and flow, I think there’s no limit, never is going to be enough is just how much you and your thank can handle

Ricardo, Joseph AKA NYVP is selling his ice caps 250w and almost brand new bulbs, this could be a good deal for you. Sorry to hear about all the items that got zapped at least no one got hurt.

Would you happen to be in the area of 184th and Pines? Out west? I was working on Saturday or was it Friday, the storm hit the area nasty and I heard some thunder... almost like it was in the back of my business. We had our lights dim/cut out for 1 second and it came right back on.

As for the lights, I would replace the ballast. Its an easy and probably cheap way because I was looking at the ARO ballasts a little while ago.

Just to keep everybody inform

I call FPL and they will pay for any damage on any appliance or equipment due to any surge or voltage problem IF is not related to any storm or lightning’s and some how with my account # (address) they know there’s was a storm in the area and witch sector was affected.

It was a good try !

what you need to do is buy a whole house main surge arrestor. Either to the main outside or a panel style.. You can get them at Homedepot, lowes or an electrical supply house for around $85.00. Best thing of all is they come with a $25,000 - $75,000 coverage for anything hooked to the house. Hope this helps :bum:
