Bannerfish in reef

Can anybody tell me if the Bannerfish is reef safe ?
Also is Wimplefish another name for the bannerfish or are they 2 diffirent fish ?
I read somewhere the Bannerfish is not reef safe and the Wimplefish is, but another website said they are the same fish.

If they are different then how do i know if I have a banner or Wimple ? My lfs said my fish is a banner but I looked in my fish book at a pic of a Wimple and mine looks exactly the same as the Wimple.

I have a "Longfin Bannerfish" in my reef tank, and he has never ever nipped at anything, he is spectacular. That being said there are about 4 or 5 varieties of Longfin banners that are out there, and really only this specific one is reef safe. LA says its not, but numerous books say that it is, with caution.

Not to mention he is exceptionally beautiful and very great personality.

bannerfish are reef safe, just, make sure you do not have a long fin bannerfish, they are absolutely not reef safe, you can id them by the last black stripe, if it goes more into the anal fin and to the right it is a long fin bannerfish. and bannerfish and wimple fish are the same thing! aka. the long fin bannerfish which is a reef enemy, the last stripe ends pretty much at the tip of the anal fin, the non long fin ones have the last stripe going further into the anal fin, I hope this helps, but, yes they are reef safe

also doug bush, that is not a long fin banner fish. that is one of the many other species that is reef safe, google long fin bannerfish and compare pictures what you have doug i believe is a heniochus singularis

IMO live aquaria has it labeled wrong. but what do you expect? if you google it, many websites have the non longfin for sale and list it as reef safe, but, they note that the longfin is not reef safe, the problem with live aquaria is they dont give you the exact species name, they are selling all species of bannerfishes under the name long fin, which is not right......... but, it is no different than a lfs!

lol, it angers me they are ignorantly selling all banenrfish under the generic scientific name, so, who knows what you are going to be getting from them, but, it is for sure heniochus, lol, but, by the way, we might send you heniochus chrysostomus, heniochus monoceros, heniochus varius, the list goes on and on, which is dead wrong becasue one species of heniochus is the worst thing ever for a reef tank and the rest are, i think i am going to write them lol, that is wrong for the consumer!

also, do not pay those outrageous prices, my lfs sells the large and medium and has several to choose from very healthy and beautiful for $15!!!

also, i gave you the wrong id method, it is backwards, lol, the longfin banner, the last stripe does not go into the anal fin, it ends towards the top of the anal fin, the reef safe non longfin banner has the last stripe going well farther into the anal fin, side by side it is a great difference!

if it looks like the one in the pic it is NOT A LONGFIN, lol, and yes, it is reef safe! they are great fish, i love watching mine!

i am sorry, lol, i typed the wrong one, it is a Heniochus diphreutes , and a great addition to the reef!

also, you have a reef safe species, schooling bannerfish, this is the non reef safe, which does not school Heniochus acuminatus which is a true longfin!

Wowo... over posting much? Thats the same fish I have, and according to several books that I have seen, it is a LONGFIN, and it is reef safe. I love mine.

Hills, I think you are a bit confused, my fish looks like the one in the LA pic, and the one in the OPs pic.

Read these:

i have never had any luck with heniochus... both time i tried them i lost them before they got out of qt so i quit trying them ..( years ago)

yeah, i hope mine makes it, i did some research before i bought it, as long as i can get them to eat.......... they are difficult to keep though i know. i get them for $15 so, i figured why not try it, they look great... well see...........

no, im not confused, just because liveaquaria says thats what they are, its not. you do not have Heniochus acuminatus which is a true long fin. they dont even specify which species you are getting at liveaquaria lol, they just give the family. that is poor business and i think it is quite amuzing!

i pay my dues, lol, i dont think they mind me overposting, lol, i kept forgetting more i wanted to say, just like this time!
