the point of bb is to be able to have maximum control of your tank...by adjusting feed, skimming, and flow, you can make your tank as dirty or as clean as you would like.
Make sure your rocks won't move. Softies do great in BB in my experience. I can't kill a patch of mushrooms and aptasia in my bb to save my life. My LPS are doing great also - hammers, frogspawn, plates, favia.
my rocks have always sat on the glass anyway. I am looking to get rid of the cc w/o putting sand back in. Most of the creatures in my tank are between 4-8 yrs old (probably bulletproof by now). I am looking to convert to SPS but don''t want to get rid of all my softies. Thanks everyone. The transformation begins today.
You could experience (as I did) continually very high nitrates after the switch to BB and is difficult to maintain and get back under control. No matter what I did it wouldn't drop back down to 0 ever. I finally put a remote sand bed in and is running good now and nitrates are considerably lower (0-5 now). HTH, Sean.
