Basket/Feather starfish care?

Saw one of these a couple days ago in a LFS and am going back soon. I was wondering if anyone has had success in caring for them?

I unfortunatly bought a feather star about four or five years ago, against my better judgement, when I saw one at LFS. I had never seen ANYTHING like it, and had to have it.
I posted on here eventually as my beautiful feather star started fading. Ron Shimek was SHOCKED I had kept my crinoid for a little over 2 MONTHS! Maybe things have changed since then, and your tank is a lot bigger than my 55g that was over-dosed with filter-feeder food, but I kind of doubt it. Hopefully someone will prove me wrong with more up-to-date-info. It was something else to watch that thing "walk" around the tank, and then hang out to feed!

It is a beautiful creature. It also has feeding demands that almost certainly cannot be met in an aquarium. I bought one several years ago and despite target feeding it lasted a few months before I didn't see it again. Don't do it.

Oh well. Wanted to know ahead of time whether to just stare wistfully, or start looking for a price tag... :P

In the wild they actually extend all their arms into the current to feed on planktonic creatures etc. It's ironic you posted this b/c I was just reading about them in a new book that came out recently, "Oceans," I believe by Jacque Costeaus son and other scientists. Apparently they very specific demands that, like others have said, can in no way be duplicated in an aquarium. I don't think they are even generally sure what they feed on, only that they are planktonic creatures or algae.

I had one for about four months. I was told that was a long time for a tank. I had a green one. They are amazing. There are some giant ones on the "shallow seas" Planet Earth.
