Tank looks like poo. It happens to me every summer. The weather gets nice , and the tanks slide into coast mode... anybody have a have a good way to beat the summer blues ?

since I always have a million things going on, I try to devote 20 or so minutes to my tank every day or 2. Usually a small water change, clean a bit... whatever. It helps me from staying away too long and from having to spend an entire afternoon/night on it.

same here. I'm a hardware junkie. Get one of these!

My 72 gallon looks worse than poo right now. Laziness, pests & huge algae blooms have caused disgust with my set-up.

But a recent purchase of a 7 stage RO/DI unit a few weeks ago & a new reef ready 90 gallon on Friday, has fired me up again.

I ve had a bucket of nsw churning for 4 days now? A brand new controller to hook up, cool rock structure to rescape my tank with, new mh bulb, just not feeling it. I think i need to find myself a new sea monster. A mantis or cool fish might snap me out of the funk.

Either ARC or the place in front had a couple of huge, nasty-looking Mantis last weekend. I just looked quick before I got too tempted to set up a species tank so don't drive out before calling. I'm not sure exactly what they were...

I called ARC....they have an L. malculata...zebra mantis, 5" and around $100.

They are a very cool mantis species but require a VERY DSB. Most of the time you would only see their eyes peeping out from their vertical burrow. Not interactive like other species.

I'm contemplating rehoming our peacock, O. scyllarus, and getting another species...if I do, I'll let you know, Block.

Why are you thinking about doing that Justin? I almost pulled the trigger on a mantis at Caribbean Forest a couple years back.

Idk..the thing is you can't have any intense lighting with peacocks...they may develop shell rot and die.
I currently have her under an all blue par 38 mounted about 2' above her 20h. It's just not ideal viewing and the 72g bf I picked up from Lando was supposed to be her upgrade but that seems a bit overkill. Thinking about doing an aggressive tank with it.

Years ago I received two for "free" on some TBS rock. Only one lasted more than a few days. The larger one grew to just under 6" over the ~3 years it lived. No idea why it suddenly died. I kept it in my Q-Tank and moved it to a small setup when I needed to use the QT. It was a very interesting beast to watch...
