beckett or recirculating skimmer?

Heaps of literature on that question ozman. Why not combine the two? My dual recirc beckett stands 4'5" tall and has an 8" reaction tube ... nothing gets past it!

Tone :)

I would say recirculating only because becketts usually require bigger pressure rated pumps to run them. A NW recirc is more efficient energy wise. I believe they do cost more. Really there is no right or wrong answer to this question though, it's more of a preference and what best fits your setup. I went with a NW and plan to make it a recirc due to the height underneath my stand, with a beckett it would have been a lot taller.

becketts need the injector to be periodically cleaned..they in my opinion if used correctly will outperform a needle wheel. but I use a recirculating octopus 200 skimmer which is needle wheel. To run a comparable beckett skimmer for my 250 gallon tank you would have to use a bigger pump like mag 12 or higher and i feel that is too much electricity to use or heat in my tank
