Beginning of Lymphocystis?

Fish Freak
Saw a little white dot on my Bellus' Pectoral fin Yesterday. She likes to dart in and out of my rockwork and is very camera shy so I cant get a good picture. The "dot" seems to have gotten a tad bit bigger today, not sure by how much but it is easier to see today.

I suppose it could be ich but I think the "dot" is too big to be ich. The only fish I have in my tank is my 2 false perculas (healthy and never had anything white on them, 3 months in my tank) and my Bellus. The Bellus was purchased from Divers Den about 3 weeks ago and has shown no sign of disease or sickness till yesterday. I did not quarantine the Bellus before adding her to my display (suppose I could have but I know that Divers Den does one hell of a job quarantining their fish so I figured going through meds/and or hypo twice would really stress her out).

Anyways here is a pic, sorry I know its not very good but its the best I can get of her. btw the white dot that appears to be on her dorsal fin is actually something on the glass...

Maybe ich could have came in on one of the frags I got recently...dont suppose dips remove ich :spin2:

Also, she is eating healthy, seems happy, is not jerking, itching or anything abnormal. I also have 2 cleaner shrimp in the tank and she hasn't visited them since getting the dot.

From what i read if you have lymph there is no medicine for it. Read its almost never fatal as long as the fish is feed well and good water quailty. I had a blue face get it and after a couple months he was completely cleared up. Also it does look to big to be ich to me but not certain with size in picture

So on 11/27 the white "dot" first appeared. It got bigger and bigger, almost had a fungus type appearance to it. Almost like like cauliflower I guess.

Now here is the interesting part. On 12/10/2010 it was completely gone!

From reading about Lymphocystis it takes months to go away. This is making me second guess what it really was. If it was Lymphocystis would it go from being there to one day just completely gone? I mean, there is no signs of it at all. I do have a cleaner and fire shrimp.. could either of them just cleaned it off maybe?

Maybe it was Lymphocystis at all, any other ideas? I don't want whatever it was rear its ugly head again..

Kris,

No - single Lymphocystis lesions can sometimes just fall off. It may or may not come back at the same spot. What happens is that the virus causes the fish's skin cells to become gigantic in size...if the mass of huge cells does not have a secure base, they can break off, giving the appearance that it went away overnight.

That said, I can't be sure from the picture that it WAS Lymphocystis, but this species certainly does contract that disease, and if the fish was relatively new, that was probably it.
