Is it normal for this coral to bloom at night when the lights are off and shrink during the day? Where do you place it in the tank and what do you feed it?

Which if accurately identified is not likely to survive in a normal aquarium. It can be done but not easily.

Some corals are nocturnal, example sun tube coral opens at night not durring the day, I do not know about yours, but a good coral book is nice to have to research before you buy!

Please research the care of a coral before you purchase it. If people dont buy corals that can be cared for in captivity then retailers will stop wanting to carry them ... wholesalers will stop importing them ...and "farmers" will stop taking them out of the ocean. Pass it along...

Your coral needs minimal light, decent flow, and nutrient rich waters. In simple terms, ironically enough, it needs to be spoon fed.
