Berghia Breeders

Fretfreak13

I am not a boy!
Hello RC,

I'm thinking about getting into this Berghia breeding thing and selling them to my local LFSs, and of course people here who would like some. I was wondering if there is anyone still active on this site who has bred them successfully in their homes? I have an idea on the setup I'd like to make and use myself, but I'd love for you guys to tell me what's wrong with it and perhaps help me make it better?

I've had the idea for this a long time and haven't gotten any real incentive to start it. Bought a zoa frag yesterday with a little aptaisa on the plug that I didn't notice until I got home, and BAM the idea is back and nagging. This one little appy will start one of my various food cultures.

I'm gonna draw up a picture of what the first brain child of my system will start out as and I'll post it here in a few minutes when I'm done.

Here is sort of what it will look like. The bottom of the tank will be crushed coral and besides holding all the separate nudi's, will also be used as one of the aptaisa grow out tanks. CC will make it easier to move the nems around for the little guys to nom on, I think.

Each container/baby compartment will be sealed off from the rest of the water, and the only reason they are in the tank at all is for temperature control. The baby holders on the wall will be the movable little containers that hang on the sides of tanks at LFSs. The ones that hold the adults will be kind of like the little cups petsmart sells bettas in, and will sit on a PVC table with eggcrate (kind of like a frag rack).

Besides the one appy tank with the nudis, I will also have two five gallon tanks separated from the system for additional food growing.

A small water change will be done daily for all of the nudis with a turkey baster as long as I can SEE them. For the eggs and the babies who are still in their larval stages, I wont be changing their water in fear of sucking them up!

Anyone with experience with these putting in their .02 would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I've read every nudi article and have done my internet research already, but I have yet to talk to anyone who has done this.

It is very very tricky... even amphipods.. the hitchhikers we all get like copepods.. find these guys rather tasty so live rock is not recommended.

Never bred them, but I've read articles on breeding them.
