Berghia Nudibranchs

Greetings all,
I am having a terrible Aiptasia problem in my nano (20l) I was thinking of getting a couple of these nudi's.

I have not found a good place to get them, and was hoping maybe someone here would know.

If there is a fellow reefer here that has some and would like to sell them great! If anyone would like to join in on a mail order if I can't get them anywhere else let me know.

I work in the Akron area so any Cleve\Akron\Y-town area is good.

let me know.

Thanks
JimC

I just got over a huge Aiptasia problem, which went away when I fixed water quality. If I had a 20l, I would do a 50% water change / week until the problem went away. You can kalkwasser them to do it faster, but I would worry about pH in a tank that small if you don't have a pH probe.

Berghia die when they run out of Aiptasia and are expensive to buy/ship. If you really like the Berghia idea, you could buy them mail order (I don't have specific recommendations), watch them work, and try to sell them to others in the area at a discount. You'd probably lose money doing this.

you're better off getting a peppermint shrimp, they eat them and they clean/inspect every new addition to the tank, at least all mine do.

I have three peps in there now. They are not doing much damage. I guess I can try and blast em with Kalc... I prefer a more bio friendly weapon though.

Thanks

p.s. Charile that girl in your avatar is:smokin:

p.s.s I just read your occupation, so I assume that is you...

The above comment still applies.

Speaking of peppermint shrimp, mine dont seem to eat Aiptasia either. I killing any Aiptasia with kalkwasser paste when it gets so big, usally by how close it is to a coral. But my peppermint shrimp are not interested in it and only seem to want to clean the fish.

There are some for sale on ebay - I think the packs have free shipping, you could see if someone in your area wants to split them with you

I bought berghias for my infestation. After I dropped them in I never saw them again and the Aptasia is going strong. It was a lot of expense for no gain.

I tried peppermint shrimp, but mine didn't have a taste for aptasia.

I finally bought a small copperband butterfly. Once he grows I will have to get rid of him since my 29G is too small, but the $50 fish was cheaper than continually trying $8 aptasia. He is doing a job on the aptasia, thought he tends to leave the larger ones alone. If I blast the large ones with kalk, then he seems to eat them (since the are smaller).

So many seem to propose the use of Kalk. It clearly hurst the aptasia, but it seems to never kill it. It is a neverending process to keep blasting them in my experience.

My peppermint shrimp ate all small aptasia as soon as I added them to the fuge...I had to kill the larger ones but have had none since..
