is there a place on here where people have rated state aquariums? what's the best aquariums throughout the world?

i've been to the georgia aquarium twice. and i must say, while it's nice, it's not all i would expect. it's supposed to be the biggest aquarium in the country, i think. my complaint is that the viewing windows are too small. u have to fight your way to the front just to see some exhibits.

anyone else have opinions on their state aquariums?

I live close to Atlantis Marine World and it is spectacular. Not the biggest aquarium, but pound for pound one of the best out there. All the exhibits are really well layed out.

I have been to a lot of the major aquariums in the US and my favorite is the National Aquarium in Baltimore, they have really good displays and layouts. The Georgia Aquarium is awesome because they have pretty much everything, but I don't think their layout is quite as good as the National Aquarium. Boston has a pretty cool aquarium as well.

I like Baltimore the most then Boston and Monterrey Bay. I was kind of disappointed when I was at GA but their Behind the Scene Tour was great.

Georgia has whale sharks and belugas! what do other aquariums offer?

This is true but you can really tell that the majority of their resources are used toward those displays, unfortunately at the expense of the other areas.

oh, and the tour guide said (unless i misheard) that georgia had the only MONTERREY RAYS in the US. i don't know why that is though.

I think this viewing window might be more of what you have in mind.

"The main tank called the 'Kuroshio Sea' holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 meters by 22.5 meters with a thickness of 60 centimeters."

Also worth mentioning is the aquarium with the world's largest acrylic panel:

I went to osaka's. It was okay. If I had know okinawa had something like that I'd have travelled the extra distance.

I vote for Atlantis Marine World as well. One of the smaller aquariums out there, but they have the largest mass of captive grown stony corals in the western hemisphere. And all the displays are top notch.
