Best choice for an external return (pressure) pump???

what do u guys recommend for the best pressure rated external return pump for a 180 gallon with a 55 gallon sump?

This will be exiting to 4 returns to loc-lines.

Must be quiet. Suggestions or anyone with one for sale/trade?

Why pressure rated for 4 loclines? The pan world 50pxx or 100pxx would be a good choice, they can handle some head pressure....as far as being quiet, the dart is definately quieter.

Well I got a Dart set up and its just dont have enough pressure out of the loclines. I was told its because the Dart is not a pressure pump so Im exploring other return pumps.
How much louder do u think the panworld 100p is compared to the Dart.
Love the Dart, just wished it had more pressure.

the loclines put a lot of backpressure on a pump. If you can do without it by changing them over to simple pvc fitting, avoiding 90 degree elbows, you might be able to get good flow out of the dart.

change your plumbing or go sequence uno series. Changing your plumbing is probably much cheaper and easier.

Replace the locline with oceansmotions 1" omniflex nozzles, this will greatly reduce back pressure. If you have your return line plumbed into a manifold with 4 1" nozzles, back pressure should be minimal. I have my closed loop set up like this, an it flows like mad. The Pan world Pumps have a hum that the Dart doesnt, not to bad IMO. I use a 50 pxx as a return, and I am very happy with it.

marcro,
what do u mean by manifold with 4 1in nozzles? does this mean you have a 1.5" tube from side to side and 4 1" tube going up to the returns?
Right now I have it plumbed 1.5" tube going left to right and 2 3/4" going up and "T"ed to 2 nozzles on each side.
Is it better your way?

I think the Dart is a great choice for a closed loop, I sell a lot of them for that type of application. For a return pump though (which I believe is what you're asking), I would go with a lower flow than the Dart because it will be difficult to keep your drain quiet otherise. The Iwakis with the Japanese motors are quiet, strong, reliable pressure rated pumps.

Let me know if you're interested, I can get most commonly available pumps...

Yes hipertec, that is how I have it plumbed. The flow in my tank is rediculous, I need to choke the Dart back by about 10% to prevent the sand from shifting too much....and some of my LPS cant handle all that flow. The omniflex nozzles are also nice because they take up much less room in the tank than the locline does.
