Hello everyone

What's the best choice for live rock for a new 240 gal setup? Lots of deals online and lots of LFS options Not in a hurry or on a tight budget just want the best value. Also how much rock should I start with? I am planning on 150lbs in the 140 gal show tank and 100lbs of live sand in the 120 Gal sump tank downstairs. I have a 6 ft outer orbit and 1200 gph flow up to the show tank and a berlin XL skimmer all setup and running. So bring on the suggestions and some rock.

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

I'm looking for some Premo live rock also so if you find a good source keep me in mind. Get your live rock covered with as much corraline algae as possible, good coverage keeps the green algae off the rock. Is your Berlin XL working OK? I had a regular Berlin & it did not skim much. You might want to look into an ASM or other type you could get at the Salty Critter in Vermillion. Dan alway carries high qualty skimmers.

No report yet on the berlin XL its running making tons of bubbles but i am just running new salt water through it at the moment so I wont know how well it works untill I get some live rock in there to cure. How do you grade a skimmer is it just by crud output or is there a better way to evaluate its performance ?

Hi,

I would think crud output is the main criteria followed by the pain in the butt to keep it running rating.

i got all of my rock from premiumaquatics.com and i was very impressed with it when i got it it was about 60% coraline covered and after 10 months it is about 95% covered they r very helpful in selecting rock for u and they r in indy = 1 day shipping at no extra cost for next day

You might consider going with a split of Marco rocks and live rock. I ordered some marcorocksdotcom and they were incredible...especially at $150 for 50 lbs shipped. Seed it with some coralline live rock and in 8 or 9 months you won't be able to tell the difference:)

He's not setting up a new tank, he wants to add some top knotch live rock to his tank. So dead rock isn't even n the ball park :)

I agree with plantankerously on going with a mix of marco rock and live rock.

You're thinking of Burgman, the op is setting up a new 240 gallon.
