Best Dremel, or other cutting tool

I have a pretty good collection of LPS now and would like to do some fragging for trading. I see that most people use Dremels, is that the best tool? Is the "Diamond Blade" the only one I'd need, or are there other useful tools? I've seen the 3000, 4000 and a much smaller unit, I didn't get the model name but it looked easy to use still with a high RPM.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I just bought a cheap rotary unit, not Dremel bran, from haborfreight.com for $7.49. Not the best unit, but if your on a budget and only need to do minor fragging, this works fine.

Dremal for the small stuff, and a bandsaw with a metal blade for large or thick cuts.

I also want to try a small diamond wire bandsaw, would be sweet to go any direction at the drop of a hat.

Wet saw, the kind used to cut tile especially if you’re going to frag a lot. Remember too much heat is a concern when cutting LPS. Probably even more so than cutting SPS. A rotary tool like a Dremel would be fine for the occasional frag.

The Dremel is awesome for dividing up frags... The daimond blade is a must but I suppose any rotary tool would work well... The daimond blade has to be turned down to a lower speed than max anyway as it is fragile.... Above all remember to wear some googles .... Fair warning! seriously LOL

Usually, the dremel is not a deep enough cut to fully separate the pieces so you'll want a chisel to pry them apart after the dremel has scored the cut.

I picked up an off brand named dremel from Lowes made by GMC for $19 bucks as well as the diamonad cutting wheel $14. The setup has yet to fail me. Cut plenty of frags and rock with it and no problems. Just have to keep the frags cool.

Thanks guys, I will check out the lesser expensive models but I've seen the lower powered Dremel quite cheap so I'll probably just pick it up.

A LFS uses a rotary wetsaw just like for tiles. He puts saltwater in the basin and has fragged acans that way. The low heat and saltwater made nice clean cuts, and the frags healed in no time. I was actually quite surprised at the results. I use dremel and diamond blade myself.

My LFS used a Roto Zip with a tile bit and man, it cuts like butter. So I went and got me one the other day, almost killed myself....but it did what I needed to do. Packed it back up and wrapped it, a birthday present for my boyfriend, and I'll get to watch him use it.
