Best Filter for My Tank

I have a question, after following the directions on setting up my Aquaclear filter when I am runiing it at maximum flow rate the biomax media and carbon appear to be floating in the media chamber (the biomax is right at the top of the chamber, it won't come out the overflow but it's right at the top) and there is water flowing back into the tank beside the intake tube as well as where it should be through the overflow area...why is this? Is this normal? If not what adjustment(s) should I make?

a cheaper and better alternative is to get a phosban reactor and fill it with carbon

rekn that may be but that's besides the point here, I already have the filter and i need info on it, not replys saying i should have done this or should have bought that instead...thank you!

Im not following you exactly on what is happening with the new filter. I have an aquaclear 110/500 on my 125 gallon cichlid tank and it is pretty much plug and play after the initial set up. There shoud be water coming down out of the filter like a waterfall into the tank. If water is coming from somewhere else than that should not happen.

Marinemom the water is coming down out like a waterfall where it should but it's also coming out by the intake tube and spilling back into the tank.

I believe I just solved my problem. I was noticing that when I pushed the floating media back down into it's chamber more the water receded in the intake chamber and stopped overflowing by the intake tube so I balled the biomax media up a bit instead of spreading it out thin and it stayed down in the chamber instead of floating up, now water is only returned to my tank via the waterfall return area that it should be .

Not sure but sounds like the output (waterfall) side is clogged up and the water is flowing back and out the intake side. Take one media out at a time and see it alleviate the congestion.

This usually happen when the sponge or other media is over due for cleaning

thanks flameangel88...I hope so, this is a brand new filter so the spong being dirty shouldn't be the source of the problem .

Sounds like you have the new filter working just fine now. The aquaclear filters are excellent and they are very quiet. They also know how to move a lot of water.
