best fuge substrate?

I was wondering what is the best substrate for a refugium. I know a lot of people just use sand, but what about the mineral mud or marine biosediment?

In the very short time I had success with a refugium, it was with mineral mud.

I swear by Ecosystem's Miracle Mud! My corals thrive and water quality is outstanding. My fuge teems with life.

When I set mine up I used 2" of Kent Biosediment, then 2" of mineral mud, topped off with a jar of Walt Smith's Refugium Booster. It has been doing very well for a couple years. In the pic you can see the different layers.
