best internal return pump?

Tank is 120G. not sure what the overflow is rated for, but its 4x4 with a 1.5 inch pipe exiting.

eheim 1262 without a doubt if you truely need around 1000 gph..........you should only have 3 to 5 times your tank volume turnover through your sump per hour.

That eheim or a mag9.5 would be slow enough to churn through the sump.

Getting a smaller pump... ehhhhh... Visit some fellow aquarists' aquariums. See what they have, pick what you like and discard what you don't. The idea for a small return pump is that you don't want water crashing through your sump causing splash/bubbles that get introduced into your display tank. You want water to have enough time in the sump so as to go in and out through all your devices; protein skimmers and reactors and such.

I think you'd be fine with that Eheim or even an equivalent mag (like mag9.5)

Good luck.

:D

Eeek! :)

I think the original request included energy efficiency as a parameter. Efficient, mags are not. Hot and loud.

Check out the Ocean Runner 3500 or the 2500. The 3500 is 900 gph at 0 head, and only 65 Watts -- almost 30 watts less than a mag9.5, and it is quiet to boot. Eheims are good pumps also. I currently run both eheim and ocean runner pumps.

I like ocean runners. Very energy efficient, quiet, and runs cool. Eheims are very nice too, but pricey. On the other side of thing.. You usually get what you pay for. A Eheim will probablly out last an ocean runner, but by the time the ocean runner dies there will probablly be some new pump out that you will want.
