Nowhere near downtown (or each other) but I'd check out Vivid Aquariums and Unique Corals.

Vivid is a great store!! Well worth a visit!

Age of Aquariums in Signal Hill....very nice selection of healthy corals at reasonable prices.

Vivid aquarium is nice, so is rainbow aquariums and pond- they tend to have large healthy fish for very good prices.
