Best position to mount Favia?

I was just curious what the best way to mount these is? I have a new frag of Dragon Soul coming and i don't know if i should mount it flat on a rock, or mount it on it's own smaller rock in the substrate and let it built its own "rock", or skeleton.

I've seen peoples pics and sometimes they have a perfect half moon of this stuff sitting in the substrate. How does this happen, and is that the best way to place it.

I was just going to put it on the lip of one of my higher rocks and hope it encrusts it.

God, i hope this makes sense...

You could get better help if you describe what you're lighting your tank with, dont want to put it too high if you have strong lighting. Always a safe bet to start out low regardless, then move it to a desired location over the course of a week or so. If you want the nice half ball shape you'll need to leave it on the sand, otherwise it will encrust within your rockwork.

Well, right now i have a 24" Aqualight Pro with 1 150w and pc's. But at the beginning of the month i'm putting the ATI pro module with 8 bulbs to replace that fixture.

I keep my Favids low & pretty level. I'd say on a flat rock lower in the tank. Of course, as some on RC know, I also have an ocellaris clown that has her own ideas on tank decor. Anything not bolted down, esp. at extreme angles tends to end up on the bottom anyway!
