This isn't reef related but I know that some of you guys are good with computers. Does anyone know any good free software online to get rid of this spyware crap? I have gone two years without any and then all of a sudden I have a toolbar that I can't get rid of and crap "warning" me that I need to buy something to get rid of it.

Thanks guys

I use this nifty command every year or so:

Format c:

:)

...I'm actually not kidding...the occasional "digital enema" does wonders for your system!

As far as software is concerned... I use the latest "Norton Internet Security" program from symantec. It does a great job of filtering out the crap and handles virus protection and bunch of other stuff all in one. They have a new one called Norton 360 that I'll probably buy next time my subscription runs out.

I used to use AdWare back when it was free, but then they started asking for money on some of the products. I haven't looked at it lately..I've been using Norton for the last few years..but it's a good (mostly) free product.

I'd prefer to pay for the all-in-one deal instead of having one program for firewall, another for antivirus, and another for ad removal.

Also keep an eye on your Internet Explorer Add-Ons if you are using IE:
Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-Ons
..That can fill up quickly with stuff you don't need anymore and I've had some items crash my browser on some sites.

I use both IE and Firefox...if I'm venturing out to new territory I'll use Firefox with everything turned off to keep trouble away. :)

Glad to hear that seemed to work. As Fizz has mentioned there is nothing wrong with a good format every now and then because no matter how hard you try you will never clean everything up any better way. Of course now you have to deal with the Microsoft HeadHunters to get the product key reinstated every so often or you will not be able to reinstall. Another great idea there is to use FireFox as it seems to do a better job at filtering out unwanted junk than IE does. Of course I have not really dealt with the new IE much either (too addicted to FireFox now).

I have used Adaware and spybot for years both found more issues than Norton and both were free. I also use CCleaner to clean out cookies and as a registry mechanic program which really speeds up the computer, also free.

sup geek ? I get lots of Runtime stuff on my screen. Will that take care of it ?

This one is for FIZZ ..
Fizz, just a suggestion for fragswapper.
I attended URS frag swapp and had big coral that filled a cooler in the swap. Somebody requested it and I took the whole rock out and filled the empty space with other corals.
I got to the frag swap and I was in front of the build which did not look like a place for a frag swap. I did not see the building number so was not sure. I got internet connection on my ppc 6800 and went to fragswapper to check the address and the link was gone.
Will be nice to have the address info or the frag info in there the day of the meeting. Is it possible to diable everything but people can view it (just a suggestion in case you are looking for ideas).
After that I looked for the person who requested the coral and he did not show up so I had to give it for free to a good friend there (maybe they planned it like that :) .. I went to see if i can email him/her but could not get any info.

Hey Mo...This is off topic, but since you posted it here I'll respond here... :)

Old swaps are ALL online with read-only access. The only thing that goes away is the listing on the home page for "active" swapping.

If you registered for the event it's still accessible from your MyHome page even now (down near the bottom called "Past Registered Events"). If you didn't register for the event it's available on the organization's page near the bottom (past events).

So really...what I need to do is make it more obvious..like a "Happening Today" list and a "Trading in Advance" list on the home page. Something to think about..

Anyway..I'm sorry you didn't find it Mo..it is there though..that's how you're supposed to print lists out the day of the event..it cuts off trading around midnight E.S.T. but it NEVER goes away completely.

go to Microsoft.com and download Windows Defender. I think it comes installed on computers with Windows Vista, but if your system is XP or 2000 you can download it.
