Best Tank for a Mantis?

Im going to be setting up a Mantis tank over the summer. I was going to get a Lime green mantis but Now I really want a peacock because they are much more colorful

I was going to get a standard 10gal since my school limits the tank size to 10 gallons.

Im thinking of getting a custom tank built for him so if he freaks out he cant smash the glass.. I was going to go for the same length as a 10 gal, but perhaps a few inches taller so I have some more gallons to play w/ (there will also be a fuge)

Any suggestions? Would a 10gal standard be fine? Or should I get a custom tank built so I dont have to worry about the glass breaking?

any help is appreciated, thanks alot

A peacock doesn't just want that room, it NEEDS that room. A 30 gallon isn't recommended because it might break the glass. The peacock needs to move, redecorate, and other stuff. and that cannot happen in a 10 gallon. I wouldn't even think of keeping anything bigger than a 4 inch peacock in a 10, and At full grown the absolute minimum would be a 20 gallon long. And I wouldn't even make that a permanent tank

hmm....i was afraid of that.

What are some other colorful mantis'? I try looking online at sites, but they either dont have any, or they only have a Limegreen or peacock

It will kind of depend on the peacock you get. It will eventually out grow a 10 gallon and as a big adult should have something on the order of a 30 gallon tank. Thats not to say you can't keep a 3" juvinile in a 10 but eventually you will need a bigger tank. Personally I would go with an acryllic tank just incase. Nothing will cause more problems than the contents of a tank on the floor.
You know your RA's so you would know if they will be "flexable" in the 10 gal limit. I know when I checked out of the dorms my RA's told me they knew about ALL the animals in the dorm including my snake (a big no no in the rule book). Going custom if you got a tank 28x15x12 you are looking at 20 gallons. and 12x24x12 is a standard 15 gallon.... Should you decide to "push" the 10 gallon rule just be sure to bring it in at 3am so the RA's have "plausable denighability", or borrow a 10 so they can "see" you set it up and swap it before you fill it with water.

But I am not advocating breaking rules. Just be sure you have a box to fit over it for 'room checks'.

Tampabaysaltwater.com is another option. They sell N.wennera that would be happy in a glass 10 gallon tank.

never thought of looking there for some, thanks alot

Now...would a standard be alright? Or would it be a better idea to get custom built tank?

N wennerae shouldn't be able to crack glasss of any standard tank unless it was a freak of nature wennerae. The best it could manage on a good day would probably be the smallest chip imaginable.
