Hey gurus what is the most prefered or best way to feed a clam.
If I am using DT Plankton should i pour it in the tank or take the clam out in a cup with the tank water and then put some DT in the water and leave them In for 30 minutes with lights ON.

If I pour DT (how much) in the tank should I need to turn off the skimmer and the filter and the powerheads or leave them ON.
The DT bottle says pour 5ml per 20G every other day. Is that sounds OK to you folks.

The Tank is 72G.
Clams are 1.5" in size

Thanks.

Unfortunately, there is no preferred method or best way to feed clams. You will probably get a different recommendation from everybody. So, I will instead give you what we do know:

Nobody knows for sure to what extent clams rely on filter feeding. In fact, the people who seem to push filter feeding the most are the people who make and sell phytoplankton. There are many great articles on food for corals - but I think these are taken out of context when people try and apply them to tridacnids, because we simply don't know how much our bivalves use this food source.

Until a study or two is done on how much clams filter feed and this is submitted for peer review, I would try and duplicate what is naturally found in clams' habitats.

So why does everybody's method seem to work for them? Because you will find that clams are highly adaptive animals, and like every living creature, they have compensatory mechanisms.
