hi im gonna be moving into a house this week coming up. what would be the best way to move my 24g aquapod? i was thinking of taking 50% or more water out and then moving it then put the water back in. from where i am now to where im going it takes about 25 to 30 mins.

Well heres what I did. I have a 16g bowfront and I moved to a new location about 12 minute away. I bought 4-5gl buckets. slowly sucked out 50% of the water with a power head. Thin slowly started plulling out the live rock and placing it in the two buckets that were about 60% full. once they were out, I continued filling the other bucket and pulled out the live stock as it drained into the other buckets. I left 2 inches of water in the tank and you would beleive how heavy it was withe the sand and about 2g still in it. I placed lids on all the buckets and moved the items. setup the tank where I wanted it and slowly poured about one bucket worth of water. I then used a power head to suck the water from the buckets with the live rock and possitioned the rock.once the tank was about 50% full. I used a net and placed the fish and friends in and the rest of the water. Amazingly the water temp had only decreased by a couple of degrees and everything was back to normal in a bout 2 hours.

My next move however will use a larger contaner, and a small ac/dc converter for the car hooked up to a heater and air pump as my next move will be longer.

first i would drain about 50% or more to catch everything
then
i would put all the corals in one bucket
all the fish in another
and the inverts in another
and the live rock in another

then take the sand out with a siphon hose
it is much easier that doing it by hand with a cup
then one you have got most of the sand

drain the rest of the water

I would definitely not move that tank half full, especially since they're prone to cracking. Empty it as much as you can into 5 gallon buckets with lids and be careful while moving it empty, I've heard they crack very easily just being moved. Also, half empty would be very hefty and the water moves around and makes it hard to carry an aquarium like that.

24G? if you only remove 12G, it still has nearly 100 lbs of water. Add the weight of your rock and gravel, you'll be in danger of, cracking the tank, dropping the tank, straining your back. I think you would be best served removing everything as suggested in other posts. 3 things can happen when you move your tank, and 2 of them are bad.

im moving my AP24 three hours away on friday, i bought a 32 gallon trash bucket, which i plan to fill with everything (rock, fish and corals(in bags)). This will allow me to keep an eye on the tank itself so it doesnt fall and crack.

thanks for all your guys help. i bought 5 gallon buckets with lids and drained water into the first bucket and put in LR then filled another bucket and put the rest of the LR in it and all the inverts in it. then i filled up another and put the fish in it then left about 3 inches of water in the tank and moved it. then put all the LR back in and then inverts then fish. the fish are doing good and everything is back to normal.
