Best way to stop micro bubbles

I have a 100 gallon tub for my sump and building baffles may be difficult. I was looking for another method. On my 90 I use a bubble tower made with coral rubble. The plan for my 270 was to try this again but I was looking for other ideas. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks

You can attach a filter pad to egg crate just before the return pump. Just make sure to add cleaning/replacing that filter pad to your regular tank maintenance regime.

some people put smaller tubs inside their big tubs to section off parts of the sump when baffling is not possible. With a large 100 gal tub it would probably be easy to find some sort of small container to encase your return pump and stop some bubbles from getting through

i have 100 gallon Rubbermaid tote also and i had the same problem i have a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in the bottom and put my return line in it with a filter sock works very well no micro bubbles at all i have my bucket at a slight angle so the water can pass out the bottom ..

Thanks for the replies. I think I like the idea of the 5 gallon bucket. I am going to go with that idea and see what I can do. I think my biggest problem is cutting the flow speed. I have a sock on the return but the flow is still causing a lot of turbulence and mixing what bubbles make it into the sump and getting them to the intake of my pump. Keep the ideas coming.

I also have live rock in and around the bucket to stop any bubbles that might get by as for turbulence you should not have any i am running 2500+gph through my sump and do not have any problems the water in the sump looks like it is barley moving the bucket should take care of the turbulence just start with a few holes in the bottom of the bucket and drill as necessary you do not want the water to leave the bucket to fast at least thats how i did it hope this helps......

I was able to reduce a large amaount of bubbles coming from my drain but I need to reduce the bubbles coming from my skimmer. I have a sock on the exit pipe but still a good amount of bubbles coming out. One thing I still want to do is put a 90 degree elbow on the bulk head that feeds my return pump to make sure the water coming from the tank is taken from as low as possible from my sump.

I put baffles in my 150 rubbermaid tub. just siliconed them in with black silicone. works very good. also, my return goes into a 10 gallon tank that overflows into the sump area. I made a bubble trap area that the water flows thru and put the heaters in there. on the pump intake I took a 12" long piece of PVC with a cap and cut a slit with my saw every 1/2". it works great at not restricting the inlet on the pump and forces it to draw water from the very bottom of the sump. also eliminated the Vortex effect from the suction of the large pump I am using (barracuda 5600gph).

also, my skimmer (MR-2) empties into a tote, water flows around the base of hte skimmer and then thru a bulkhead and down into the sump.

Thanks for the coments. I decreased the bubbles to vitually 0. I put my return into a 5 gal bucket that has bioballls at the bottom and 6in of live rock rubble. Once I did that the bubbles disappeared in about 4 hours. Wow does that make a difference to have a tank with no bubbles. Thanks again.
