Bi-valve ID Help Please

I'd been using this small chuck of rock to prop up some of my corals. But after closer observation I noticed it has a mouth. It's sensitive to light and shadows. I suspect it's a bi-valve of some sort. Can anyone ID this please. Thanks. Chip

I believe that is a brachiopod

I believe you're right Chuck. Such a simple, yet very interesting creature. Thanks.

Very welccome, and yes, they can fake you out, I have had a few of them myself and not know it until I saw a part of my rock move slightly, I even keep a few in my sump just for their filtering ability since I keep my tank as free flowing as possible.

That looks like mantle, not lopophores to me. Brachiopods have feeding structures that resemble that of feather duster worms. Try looking up Crassostrea and ostrea.

HTH,
Kevin

I agree with it not being a brachiopod but I wouldn't guess at anything beyond clam. Not enough features showing.
