I don't think this is an indication that the head is splitting per say, but rather another form of reproduction. Check this out.

Both my green&purple frogs do that from time to time I've never noticed it being a problem and not sure exactly what the cause is but have had the green for over 4 years and the purple for close to a year now both growing and healthy...
