Bimac found on floor today

Hello all,
I just felt like reporting in on my experience today.
I came home to see about an 8" black ink splotch in the white carpet at the base of my tank:(
I followed the tracks in the corner of the room to find my Bimac, that I have had now for about 6 months.
It was pretty dry and life less as I scooped it up running for the tank. I flipped it upside down and purged the
air out of the mantle. Its eyes where not dilated out so I had hope in the fact it was still alive.
After about an hour of just sitting there it started to move a tentacle or two. After the second hour it
came too and crawled back to its den. It is showing poor motor skills, a bruise like internal hem rage in
the right tip of the mantle and a dark wrinkled tip on the mantle about the size of a quarter.
I hope it will return to full health as I am scared it was out of water for too long (possibly up to 2hrs).

The water chemistry is excellent and it is fed every day. It has a habit of sitting on the edge and squirting water,
I think she just went too far this time.

If anyone can think of anything else I can do to help it out, please let me know.

Also, I know it is uncommon for a Bimac to climb out of a tank, but it has done it now 2 times over the course of
six months. It is in a 150 gallon tank all to its self and still finds the need to get out and about. I plan to use a polyscreen for a cover.

That's too bad, I hope it survives.

My bimac has never exhibited those traits. They must come in all different personalities.

It's also too bad about the ink spot. At least you'll have an interesting story to tell visitors.

It has made it through the night and seems to be doing alot better. It has been moving around its den and probing holes in the rocks for food; so I would say that is a good sign.

I didn't mean to make an issue of the ink all over the carpet; it really isn't an issue in the whole scope of things. I just hope my little buddy gets better.

Sorry to hear about what happend to your octo.
Bimaculoides is well known for its lack of desire to crawl out of tanks. All octopuses are capable of doing so though. I have always recommended this species for all of its wonderful traits including not being prone to escape. However, It is always possible to have a octopus to get curious or leave the tank for some unknown reason including bimacs. Leaving the lid off of your tank a chance you take with any species. I have never had a problem with this species so far for escape attemps but I do worry about my captive breed baby because he is quite a little monkey lol. I do a partial lid. I use eggcrate and rest my lights on top of that. The octo could get out if it really wanted too but I keep them well fed so when they are not eating they are sleeping lol. The blocked sky might not be as interesting as a wide open one.

Glad he came back Calvin. You know in 15 years of keeping fish, I have never become attached to anything like I did my Octo. Well, I had a puffer once that was really cool...but still, not like the Octo. I'm glad to hear he is a fighter. Good Luck...

GOOD NEWS........

She has been working on a new den all day.
I would think it is because it is insecure with the world now.
I fed her a large pice of shrimp and she gobbled it down.

The only hang ups now are on its right eye.. It seems to have lost pigment and is white; though I can see the dark horizontal
line. I hope it repairs its self.

This is a long way from when I found it dry on the floor.

Good luck. That must have been a scary feeling to see him on the floor like that, happened to a snowflake eel I had, wasn't pretty. Sounds like they have good healing abilities. If as someone said they convert protein to body mass the most efficiently, it would make sense they heal fast. Sounds like she's doing well.
