so ive got a pink birdsnest that isnt pink anymore...it was pink whem i first ordered it but has masked its colors...all my sps is super colorful...i run skimmer, gfo,carbon,40lbs of miracle mud which colored up alot of my corals once it was in the refuge..i have a ponape birdsnest that is bright green with purple tips that is holding its color great, also a birds of paradise thats got amazing color as well...the birdnest that want turn back pink grows out of control...i use to run halides and had it about mid way in the tank but i put one of my frags way down low and it had pinked up very well,so i tryed with the mother colony and havent seen any changes..now im runnigs all vho and t5 lighting so ive left it down low..i also tryed moving it up but still no pink...i havent added any amino acids in a while and wonder if that could be it...if anyone outthere has any input,i would love to here it...thanks,mark

Loosing color in SPS is a mystery, I have some that are amazing especially my Oregon Torte which is neon blue , then I have some like my red planet and plum crazy which are both growing well but are tan in color. I also have a pink birdsnest and it sits at the top under 10K halides and it has wonderful color.
All my water parameters are excellent and I even bought a phospate meter and it showed phospate at .02 which is good.
I have had some success moving them around the tank away from the center where the halides are towards the front so the actincs hit them.
Make sure all parameters are in check, Alk, Mag , and Calcium .Once they lose color it can take weeks to color back up so be patient.

Running Halides I have to keep birdsnest at the bottom of the tank.I had some that had lost color in the frag tank moved them back into my tank and the color has been coming back great. They are on the bottom floor of the tank as I am running 3x400w 14K's.Try moving them into the shadows and wait a week or so and see how they do color wise.

jason,i know me and you have talked about it..ive tryed everything you ant art have told me to try....its the only coral that want color up....the ponape is holding and unreal color....so thanks you guys for giving me some input..im gonna keep it down low for a while and see what happens..thanks,mark

Check your phosphate levels with a photometer not a regualr test kit. For me the pink birds nest was a tell tell when it started to turn brown that phosphates were elevated when everything else looked good. Look into it. You will be surpriesed. Even at .06 ppm of PO4 you will notice browning/dulling of color. Thats my $0.02

thanks for the info art...all my stuff is so solid in color, everything i got from you is still the same color...my phosphates read zero with my standard reef test kit..ive got a huge gfo reactor and not the slightest hint of green algae anywhere....if i did test one with what your talking about, what should i do,up my gfo in the reactor??im willing to try anything you tell me to....your like freakin yoda to a jedi knight...lol...so if you got some more info than let your young apprentice know....
