I would like to use black abs for the plumbing at the top of overflow/return portion that is visible at top of overflow. I do not like the look of white pvc in tank
I will conect with threaded pipe fittings so bonding not an issue. Is abs safe in reef aquarium?
depends.. some has mildew inhibitors. if it says not for drinking water most likely has mildew inhibitors in it. Also Abs is used for drainage or removing gases from home mostly where there is no pressure involved. Since their would be pressure I wouldn't use abs for this in my opinion. You can spray paint the PVC with Krylon for plastic
Why not just paint the white pvc with krylon fusion, or you can order black pvc from bulk reef supply. But abs should be fine to use. Make sure to get an all purpose cement as i have heard stories that some glue doesnt bond pvc to abs real well.
ABS again should only be used in a no pressure environment like drains, etc. Where pressure is involved abs would cause a problem I would think. Yes abs isn't supposed to be bonded. I would paint the white pvc to be on the safe side it's meant for pressure
There isn't any pressure on the drain or the return lines in our tanks. Sure there is flow but no pressure as it's an open system. Pressure only builds up in closed systems. So yes ABS pipe can be used.
I agree with Shifty use an all purpose glue when trying to glue two unlike surfaces. PVC glue is actually a bonding agent more than a glue.
