Black cardinalfish?

I've never owned one but they appear to be pretty hardy. They come into my local LFS from time to time. They stay in the stock tanks and do well. One LFS had some one for several months and they always looked healthy.

Are they deep-water/low-light specimens? I was reading up on a random deep-water fish that doesn't tolerate light well, and it suggested housing it with other like-minded fish. Cardinals were on the list; is this the type of cardinal they were referring to?

They are predominantly nocturnal. You wil see more action from them under moonlights. They are likely, but not definitely, going to hang in the rocks during the day.
They will adapt to bright lights IMO.

Thanks Matt. I'll think about them instead of the group of Kaudern's I was considering instead.

I have a group of 6 in my 125 gallon under three 250 watt halides with no problem. Feed great, hardy fish, personable. Personally I tend to see more activity during the day but then again I dont spend too much time watching them in the dead of night. As they mature they do tend to pair off but the tank is large enough for pairs to have their own "turf"

I know Kaudern's can handle the light well. :)

My concern was how the blacks would do.
But thank you for the input. Are those tank-raised? They have REALLY nice color for fish that are usually plain B&W...
