Black Onyx Perculas

That would be a very poor example of an onyx but yes it would still be considered onyx. HOWEVER you will not get a fish like that if you order a PNG or SI perc from LA. LA knows what an onxy clown is & they will pull any that look onyx and sell them as onyx.

Thats not an Onyx these are onyx.:D

The photo that Live Aquaria provides on their website now is much more accurate of the clowns that they carry from PNG then they had in the past, Although I dont beleive that they represent the total number of varieties that may be collected in PNG. The ones that I have recieved from LiveAquaria also have that "smokey orange/black" color that doesn't have as bold of a transition between the black and orange on other percula clownfish or onyx clowns. Here is a picture of my female three years ago and then a current photo.

The regularly accepted term to describe a perc as "onyx" is

Black connecting all 3 white bars.

A small group of people say thats not enough to be considered onyx that they have to have a black dorsal as well.

Rod goes as far as to say they have to be linked to a particular fish (but I think thats just for marketing his fish... at least I hope thats why he says that)
