Black saddles

OK, I am debating in my head whether it is worth it or not to get a true black saddleback clownfish from a local store. The clowns arrived today and looked like they were struggling greatly (indicator of wild capture?). So I said to the guy hold one for me and in 3 or 4 days I will come back to see how they are doing. These clowns were awesome looking, but they were breathing very rapidly and almost all of them had a mild case of ich. Now, I have a qt running and could quarantine, and they were only 19.99.

My question is do you think trying to save one or two of them is even worth it? They were pretty awesome looking despite their sickness.

let me know your opinion
thanks
Chris

let me be more specific:

Do you think there is a reasonable chance of survival, and if so what would be the best approach to attacking the situation? What type of meds do you recommend and for how long?

thanks
Chris

Yes, 5% or so. Let this batch go.

if they are struggling, 4 days wont be enough time for them to sufficiently recover, let them go and wait for some healthy fish

You might be able to save them with the experience you have, and the fact that you have a quarantine tank of your own. I would ask for a significant discount. I don't think you could do worse than the LFS at getting them healthy, you would probably give them the TLC that the store can't or won't.If you have the means and the time it is worth it to try and save these little beauties.

not to sound negative or say that it cant be done. But in my experience this just teaches a store, especially an inexperienced one, that sick or undesirable fish can still be sold. Even with a discount I am sure that the store will still profit on fish that are dying. I have seen plenty of black saddles that come in healthy and acting normally. While these are ill there is a chance that you may be able to save them, but there is also a big chance you wont. Pass on these and wait for some that look better.
