Black spots on Coral

I have a few monti's (Superman and tricolors) a few chalices, birdsnest, and nephthia (which died) with black spots. They look like Pencil dots but on the Nephthia it was fuzzy. I wish i could take a picture but not a very good one since they are small.

Any thoughts as to what it could be??

Is the black spot a change of coloration of the polyps or are there additional texture to the black spot?

looks like additional texture to the black spot (more like rock that flesh)
