Blasto Dying...Help!

A week ago, my blasto was alive and thriving. A few days ago, I noticed the polyps were not opened and puffed up as they usually are. Then a small hole appeared in the middle of each polyp. At first, I thought it was hungry. But the hole kept getting bigger and now four days later, it is deteriorating fast. Is it being eaten or just dying or what? Out of desperation, I put it in a reef dip tonite for about 30 minutes. I don't know if that was a good idea or not. Two buglike things came out. I tried to get a picture but they're too small. They were about 2 mm long with long antennas on their heads. I don't know if they were eating my blastos or just pods that got flushed out of the rock from the dip.

I have two other blastos doing just fine. All parameters of my water are fine...salinity-1.026, Calcium- 440, alk- normal range, nitrates-0, ammonia-0. Can anybody tell me what appears to be wrong with the blastos and what I can do to try to save them? Thanks in advance!

Third time's a charm?

I've had the same thing happen with some of my blasto's. One day they look amazing, then they start deteriorating for no reason:confused:

I have a few doing the same as yours right now while the majority of mine right next to them are doing great? IME, blasto's are pretty delicate and will come and go. Mine HATE to be moved, even just a few inches. I rearranged them a few months ago and a bunch died off. I would just leave them be, feed them and make sure your water quality is good.

Thanks for your reply. That's interesting what you said about moving them because I had moved them a few weeks before they started dying off. I'm still perplexed as to why EVERY polyp is dying. Today is worse than yesterday. The polyps in the pic with the biggest holes are just skeletons today. And the worse part for me is not knowing what happened. If I knew what caused it, I could try to fix the problem. Not knowing means I just have to cross my fingers and toes and pray it doesn't spread or happen again. Welcome to the undersea world, right?

I moved one of mine to a spot it didn't like and it started doing the same thing. I have moved it back and it has stopped deteriorating but it hasn't recovered much nor is it eating. I am crossing my fingers that it recovers in it's origninal spot.

Wow. I'm curious on what's happening. I love blastos too so I'm trying to learn as much about them . I have not seen this condition happen to my blastos though.

I had the same thing happen to one of my sweet looking blastos as well. I had four heads, then a small hole started to deterioate with the biggest polyp as yours did. I thought that my flame angel took a bite out of it. Got rid of the flame and it didn't matter. One by one the polyps turned to skeleton. This sucks I know. I have a new colony of blastos and I sure hope that don't happen again.
