Bleached yuma

I picked up a yuma at my lfs yesterday that was pretty bleached. Its about 3/4 " across and is yellow with pink speckled in. The pink is flourescent but from bleaching the yellow is very pale. Can post picture when i get home. I got it pretty cheap it was only $20 . Im wondering what is the best way to bring it back to health. Aftwr acclimating it i placed it on the sandbed at the edge of the tank where the light is lowest. The fish store had it in a very shallow tank under a dual t5 ho fixture so i assume its bleached from too much light. In the event that im wrong and its bleached from not enough light, how long should it take to show signs of recovery under low light before attempting to give it more light if in fact the issue is not enough light. Thanks -greg

Bump -- I have the same issue -- really good looking yumas next to one bleached -- not sure how to evaluate if it needs more or less light.

Yumas tend to melt, so they're tough to nurse back... But leave it in a low light, low flow, try feeding it some brine shrimp or mysis. I'd also dose a little iodine for a while to keep things clean.

Ive tried feeding it some spirinula enriched brine but the ric is too small to eat it yet. I have it in a very low lit/ flow area. My biggest question is when should i see it begin to retain some color? I guess what im trying to ask is how many days should i wait with it in its current spot before i notice an improvement colorwise and if i dont see a color improvement in that amount of time what would you recommend i do? Aside from its color it appears very healthy. While i own several florida ric this is my first yuma so i could be totally wrong but im assuming there arent any naturally white yumas? Its mostly white with a very slight tint of yellow and has neon pink speinkled over the white randomly

The yuma is beginning to color up some. Where it was white, it is becoming yellow. Like a very pale yellow tang. Thats the best way to describe it. And the pink speckles are becoming very neon and vibrant. It is in the very corner of my tank. The exact location is one foot passed where my light fixture ends on top of the tank and 25" below the light fixture so it is in a very shaded area. When would you advise i start moving it into the light?

If it won't eat brine try smaller things like nutramar ova or even reef roids or something similar. It'll take a few weeks to color up. Be patient. If it doesn't eat anything then don't try to feed anymore, and leave it alone. If its coloring up already, I'm inclined to do nothing.

When it is 100% healthy and unbleached, which will probably take at least a month. Even then, it may never adapt to much more light than you have it under now, they can be pretty finicky. That metallic pink color will probably turn to red, once all the pastel colors are gone and it's fully open then you can start moving it around.

Ok ill hold off on moving it for a while and see how it goes. Here is the best picture i could get, its really hard to get a good pic because its so small.

any thoughts on its condition and liklihood of reviving it? Also based on its current color, what colors do you think it will end up becoming. Btw the color and overall appearance in this pic is a thousand percent better than when i got it home 11 days ago

That would be great. The yellow has gotten bright in the last few days. Its been looking positive up until today, when i woke up and found it had detatched from its lr rubble somehow(was glued) and was stuck to one of my powerheads. Thankfully there was no damage done by the ph because its not big enough to reach the fan blade, but i got it off and glued it back to a larger piece of rubble. The thing is now its all folded up on itself, like a bta thats eating. I hope it opens back up and continues it recovery im nervous for it seeing as how touchy they are

I think you're not supposed to glue a mushroom to a rock. They tend to slime up and detach themselves off if glued. Try getting a small cup with some rubble rock and just let the mushroom sit on top of it and it'll naturally attach itself to it overtime.

Thanks for the advice. Makes alot of sense sis ive tried re gluing it twice since my last post as it keeps detatching itself. I didnt know it couldnt be glued as it was glued down when i bought it, ill try the shot glass/rock rubble idea thanks again

You can set them in rubble and then if it attaches to rubble you can glue that attached rubble to a rock. If they hate it they will detach but if they'd me the spot they will just slowly walk around in ultra slow mo and spread babies
