so today i was at my LFS looking for a new addition to my tank.

since i only have 1 fish i thought another was just what i needed.

i then came across a Black Combtooth Blenny. WOW what a neat little fish, i instantly fell in love but thought to myself, i better do a little research first before i get into something im not going to be able to care for. My tank is only about 2 months old and is 55 gal.

liveaqauria says they are herbivores and will eat algae growing on my rocks and such but should be supplemented with vegetable matter, including frozen and dried foods containing marine and blue-green algae.

so my question is, what types of food is this, and is it typically readily available at most LFS?

my alge blenny doesn't touch any food that I can see. I don't have a black , but i would guess their feeding habits would be close. maybe they are talking flake food . you say your tank is 2 months old. is the rock also new ? if so i would wait until the rock has a little time to age a bit.

I had a black combtooth for 2 years. It never was able to eat any of the food I fed. It would try but never really grasped the concept. I had to tie nori and other algae sheets to small rubblerock to keep him fat and happy. Unfortunately, I got greedy and picked up an evil Kole tang that thought any fish that grazed on the LR was the enemy. The combtooth perished shortly after.

The blenny was a great fish, well worth the extra effort at feeding time. Love the color changes it was capable of (electric blue flashes on head). As long as you don't mind the extra effort on feeding, I'd say go for it
