At least he didn't place his in a 12 gallon nano. :D :D :D

Or my Lagoon:D

Anyone have a suggestion about how long to leave the pvc around him? Can i take it away tonight?

how willl you get the pvc out???
if you pull it upp around the tentacles they could be damaged i would think

is the pvc a tube?

Yeah, its a small tube he is inside.

In the morning when i 1st get up, he is completely inside it so it shouldn't be a problem to pick it up, at least i hope not! Or i assume that if i touched him a little, he will withdraw inside of it.

get it out when you can.l... the gigantea like to be on rocks in a higher flow area so it will go where it wants.

you should not touch it with your fingers though...

GREAT!!! not what i wanted to hear, lol!

If he goes on the rocks, i am SCREWED! Way too many corals up there. He gets some good flow where he is so hopefully he will stay put.

If i touch him, i would wear gloves, thats ok isnt it? Thats how i got him in the tank.

That is not exactly correct. Giganteas do like a lot of water movement, but while some will may move onto a rock, most seem to prefer the sand/rock interface as long as their needs are being met.

It is ok to touch your gigantea with your hands, especially around the base. The tentacles can be very sticky and may come off on your fingers, but if you are careful it shouldn't be a huge problem.

Well, i took the pvc off. I thought he had dug into the sand but he hadn't. My brittle actually touched him and made him retract so it was easy to get the pvc away but i was a little concerned that he hadn't dug his foot in yet.

When i was acclimating him, he attached to the bottom of the bucket and that was only in a span of about 3 hours.

Should i be worried that he didn't dig in the sand yet or wait a while before i get concerned??

Here's a pic of him now without the pvc. It looks like he is starting to attach to the "sand/rock interface" like phender said.

HOPEFULLY, that is where he will stay. If he starts climbing that rock......i'm gonna have to move ALOT of corals!

He most likly will not dig in the sand. Place a small rock next to him and he might attach.

His foot is against that large piece of lr behind him and he is starting to attach to it right at the base of the rock. Hopefully, he will be happy there and STAY PUT! lol

p.s.- is this normal? He has a bunch of little rocks, shells and pieces of sand from the lfs i got him at stuck to the bottom of his foot?

Giganteas typically don't dig down 4-6" like haddoni carpets do, but they will dig a little. Usually, since we don't have rocks buried under the sand, they will go sideways where the rocks and sand meet and attach its foot to the rock.

The bunch of rocks and shells stuck to the bottom of the foot is perfectly normal.

Cool, thanks guys!

He looks like he has attached his foot to the rock behind him just above the sandline. He's a little close to that clam on the right but just about in the perfect spot i wanted him in. He seems happy so cross my fingers he stays!

Also, just got back from the lfs and got the percs. They are actually one true and one false but have been together in a nano for 2.5 years. Both look REALLY good and were playing and swimming with each other. I'll get a pic of them when i get them into my qt.

Here's the carpet attached to the rock

Lol, thanks!

He's really not THAT blue. My 14k phoenix bulbs are pretty blue but my camera is crappola!

Don't get me wrong he is a VERY nice shade of blue and has great color but is a little darker shade of blue than what appears in my pics, especially the actinic ones. Also, his base isn't quite as blue as it appears in the pics.

I still love him though:cool:

thats a beautiful carpet, congratulations on him. My carpet is attached to the bottom of the tank lol....but mine is probably 12 to 14 inches across when he is totaly open :), I think they move the rocks in the tanks just to get a rise out of us lol....
